Free-writing

3rdJul

A lot of our work and lyrics are devised through free writing. Lately we have been looking at pictures of doves and thought we’d share some of the phrases we came up with.

A white brushstroke: like a catherine wheel that cannot go full circle

Creating a tempest with their wings and she is in the eye of their storm

Their feathers fall like snow around her

Soaring over smoke signals

Obscured, hidden by the dust of everyday things.

I watch you amused. My feather’s have darkened with experience and some have fallen with time.

Time passed slowly for you, you were eager for the new day, the next sunrise, but for me the hours pass quickly and I ponder how welcome a good long, indulgent “silence” would be.

Navigators at The Redoubt Fortress

20thApr

CircumnavigationDuring the Eastbourne Festival, the gyg took part in The Circumnavigation event at The Redoubt Fortress. This event was an exhibition of local contemporary artists responses to the fort. Alongside director Clare Whistler the gyg created Navigators  - a site specific performance to feature in the event. The piece was performed in April 2009.

The performances spanned across a weekend and were incredibly well received.

Spaghetti and Opera

5thApr

the gyg were asked to perform a Spaghetti Opera night at The Lamb in, a local pub for the arts in Eastbourne. The performance in May featured an evening of varying Italian operas and duets. The evening was a huge success with a packed out audience hanging off every word and joining in with their own rendition of Carmen’s La Habenera!
